Chapter Seven: Afraid I'll Lose Control

Just a little warning that some material near the end of the chapter might not be appropriate for young ones. :)

I watched as Jefferson pulled away from my house and I then walked into my house. I walked up the stairs and ran into Humphrey.

“Did Mr. Hobble leave, Miss?”

“Yes, he just left.”

“If there’s nothing else, Miss, I’ll be heading to bed.”

“No, thank you Humphrey. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight Miss.”

I watched as he walked towards his room and I continued to walk to my bedroom.  As I got ready for bed, I thought back to moments before when Jefferson had been in my room. That did not go how I planned. I thought for sure I would come on to him and he would be interested.

The past couple of weeks I had noticed that Jefferson was more comfortable showing affection in public. There had been several times that he had even held my hand while we were at school, which I knew for him was a big deal. Once that had happened, I had started to push the boundaries a little when we were alone, but I was curious just how far he was willing to go. After tonight, I had my answer.

I should have realized that he wouldn’t have slept with anyone. It was usually pretty easy for me to figure out what he would do, all I had to do was think about if there was any way it could affect his future career or if it was something that would make him feel uncomfortable.  Still, I was upset with myself for not being able to realize beforehand that he would have had a problem with sleeping with someone.  If that was ever going to happen, it was going to either take a lot more convincing and/or time.

I woke up the next morning and had just finished breakfast when my cell phone rang. I looked at the caller id and saw that it was Jefferson.

“Hi Jefferson.”

“Morning, I was wondering if you were busy today.”

“I didn’t have much planned. I do have some homework. . .”

“Well how about instead of doing homework I pick you up and take you to the Fall Festival?”

I smiled “That sounds like it could be fun.”

“I’ll  pick you up in about an hour?”

“Okay.”

The hour passed quickly and soon Jefferson was at my house. I heard him ring the doorbell and I ran downstairs to open the door before Humphrey could open it. “I got it!” I yelled

I opened the door and walked outside.

“What, no butler to greet me?” Jefferson joked.

“No, I thought I’d save us some time and forgo the whole butler thing.” He chuckled.

“Are you ready to lose at bobbing for apples?”

“You really want me to put my head in a tub of water?”

“Afraid you’ll lose?”

“No, more afraid of all the germs that you can catch from the water.”

We got in the car and I drove us down to the festival grounds. After parking the car we started walking and looking around. “What should we do first?” I asked.

“We could carve a pumpkin.”

We headed to the pumpkin patch and then each carved our own pumpkins. We each carved a scary jack-o-lantern.

After we carved pumpkins we decided to go into the haunted house. It wasn’t too bad. It was actually somewhat scary. At one point Rosamund got so scared that she hid her face in my arm.

After that I tried to convince her to bob for apples. She thought about it for a minute but decided against it. I took a turn while she watched and cheered me on.

We then walked around the festival grounds for a little bit before she stopped and got a concerned look on her face.  “Jefferson, I’m sorry about last night. I wasn’t thinking. I hope you’re not too mad at me.” She bowed her head down and looked at her feet.  I closed the gap between us and tilted her chin up.

“Hey, it’s okay. I just don’t want you thinking that I don’t think that you’re beautiful. I do! It has nothing to do with that. It’s just like I said, it’s just not something I’m willing to do before at least being engaged to someone. Just to be safe.”

“I understand.” She still looked a little sad and it made me feel horrible. I touched her cheek and leaned down to kiss her. We stood there for several minutes kissing before stopping. I noticed Rosamund looking over my shoulder and I turned around to see Star.

“Oh, hi Star.” I said to her.

“Hi.” She said quietly.

“I didn’t know you were coming here today.”

“Same goes for me.”

The three of us stood there in silence for a minute before Star spoke again. “Well, I guess I should get going so you two can enjoy your afternoon together. Have fun. See you tomorrow at school.” She walked off before I could say anything else.

I had never seen Star act that way since Rosamund and I started dating. “Wonder what’s up with her.” I wondered out loud.

“Maybe it’s because she saw us kissing.”

“Why would that have anything to do with it.”

“Maybe because she’s not used to seeing her best friend kissing someone.”

That kind of made sense to me.  I turned around and looked at Rosamund. “I kind of promised Mom and Dad that I’d bring you by the house before taking you home.  When they found out I was taking you to the festival they started bothering me to bring you by since it’s pretty much right across the street.”

“That sounds fun. I’ve been wanting to see your house and meet your parents.”

We got back in the car and headed the short distance to the house.

*****

Jefferson held the car door open for me as I got out of the car. I stood there for a second looking at his house. It was at least twice the size of mine.  He grabbed my hand and we walked up the stairs that led to their front door. I had never seen a house that had a front door on what looked to be the back of the house. I guess they did that to give themselves a little more privacy.

We walked in the door and Jefferson called out to his parents. “Mom, Dad. I’m home!” I heard some movement come from one of the nearby rooms and his parents appeared in the hallway.  “Mom, Dad, this is Rosamund. Rosamund, this is my Mom, Amanda and my Dad, Chuck.”

“Nice to meet you Mr. and Mrs. Hobble.” I said and then shook each of their hands.

“Oh please call us Amanda and Chuck. We’ve been asking Jeff to bring you by for a while. It’s so nice to finally meet you.” His mom gushed.

“Why don’t we go into the living room and sit for a minute.” His dad suggested.  We went into a room off the right side of the hallway and sat down; Jefferson and I on one couch, his parents on the other.

“Did you all have a fun time at the festival?” His mom asked.

“Yeah, we carved pumpkins and went into the haunted house. Poor Rosamund got a little scared though.” I felt my face turn red.

“Didn’t you think it was a little scary?” I asked him jokingly.

“You know me. I wouldn’t admit it even if I did.”

“That’s Mr. Cool for you.” In walked his older brother Charlie.

“That’s what my siblings call me. This is my older brother Charlie. You might remember him from our freshman year.” He came over to shake my hand.  I stood up and shook his hand.

“Nice to meet you.” I said to him.

“So you finally brought her over to meet us. What’s the matter, were you worried we’d run her off.” Charlie poked fun at Jefferson.

“Can you blame me? You’re already embarrassing me.”

“Just doin’ my older brother duty.”

Jefferson turned to look at me. “This is when you should be glad that you’re an only child. You don’t have siblings to embarrass you in front of others.”

“Oh this isn’t bad. You know it would be worse if Bridge was here.”

“Yes, I am very grateful at this moment that Bridge is not here.”

“So you’re an only child, Rosamund?” Amanda asked me.

“Yes, and as far as I know, my parents only wanted one child.”

“Your house must be much quieter than ours.” Chuck stated.

“Yes, Jefferson and I were talking about that when he was over at my house last night. We were discussing how I can sit in our family room and see no one all night long where apparently in your house it’s completely different.”

“Oh it is. We’re constantly running into each other in this house.” Charlie said.

“Which is one reason I haven’t brought you over yet. This place is a zoo a lot of the time.” Jefferson said.

“Well, perhaps we all should go find something to do so Jeff and Rosamund can have some time alone. It was nice to meet you Rosamund.” His mom stated.

“It was nice meeting all of you too.” I watched as they all left the room with their dad giving Charlie a hard time.

“Sorry about all of that. At least it looks like Dad is giving Charlie a hard time about picking on me in front of you. Aren’t you glad you don’t have any siblings?”

I chuckled. “I think it’s kind of cute how you all get along.”

“Well, you gave me a tour of your house, how about I give you one of mine.”

“I’d like that very much.”

We walked across the hall and I noticed that there was a grand piano in this room. “This must be your family room.”

“How’d you guess that?”

“Because it has the piano in it.  Is this where your mom wrote her movie scores.”

“The last one, yes. The first one was at the house that they lived in before they built this one. Back before I was even born.”

I looked around the room. I saw what he had meant when he had said his house was decorated in a ranch style when he was at my house.  I personally preferred how my house was decorated but for what this house was used for, I thought the décor fit the house perfectly.

We walked into the dining room and then kitchen. I was shocked by how colorful their kitchen was compared to ours. We found his Mom in the kitchen and she offered us a cookie.

“You should invite her over sometime and cook her dinner, Jeff.” She suggested.

“You cook?!” I was shocked.

“I’ve taught my three oldest to cook and I will my youngest too.”

“Besides being a famous composer, my Mom is also an amazing cook.”

We then walked down some stairs to the basement where there was a game room and an exercise room.

After walking back up to the first floor we walked up another set of stairs to the second floor. I noticed a set of stairs at the end of this hallway too. “How many floors is your house?” I asked him.

“It has four floors. The top floor has a separate apartment where Charlie and his wife, Kate live with my nephew Charles. It also has a painting studio that Mom uses sometimes and Bridge used I a lot when she lived here. There’s also an apartment above the barn for more guests to sleep in.”

“Kate, that’s Star’s sister isn’t it?”

“Yeah. Their mom and my Mom have been friends for years. That’s one reason we live here. Once their mom and dad built their house on the land next door, Mom and Dad decided to build our house on this land.”

He showed me a guest room and then past what used to be a nursery. “They haven’t decided what to do with that yet. There’s been some talk of leaving it since Charlie and Kate will probably eventually move down here and Mom and Dad will move upstairs when they get a little older and Charlie is mostly running the ranch.”

We walked past a doorway which Jefferson told me was his parents’ room. Across the hallway was a pretty bedroom that a little girl was sitting in. “Rosamund, this is my little sister Scarlett.”

“Hi Scarlett, what are you doing?”

“I’m playing with my dolls. Jeff, she’s pretty.”

Jefferson chuckled. “I think so too, sis. I’m giving Rosamund a tour of our house.”

“Okay. Have fun!”

We walked back out into the hallway. “She’s cute.” I told Jefferson.

“She is, and she knows it. This would be my room.”

He opened the door and we stepped inside. “I used to share it with Charlie but that a changed when he and Kate got married.”

“I can’t imagine sharing a room.”

“I really enjoyed it. We used to talk about all sorts of things, have pillow fights, wrestle, I kind of miss it.”

I looked at him while he talked about the fun times he had with his brother and I felt really bad for him. He turned to look out the window and I decided to surprise him while he was turned around.

WHACK!

I hit him with one of the pillows. He turned around and smirked at me.

“You did not just hit me with a pillow.”

WHACK!

I hit him again. This time upside the head.

He grabbed a pillow off the other bed and hit me back.

“You hit a girl?! How could you.”

“All’s fair when it comes to pillow fighting.”

We kept hitting each other back and forth. I kept up with him for a while but eventually he was overtaking me. I huddled on one of the beds trying to protect myself with my pillow. “Uncle! I give up!” He got on the bed and ripped the pillow out of my hands.

“Are you ready to declare me the winner?”

“Yes! You win!” I looked up at him and noticed that he was on top of me. Well this is interesting. . .

*****

I looked down at her and realized that I was on a bed with her. Not only was I on a bed with her, but I was on top of her. We were both still breathing heavy from our pillow fighting, or at least that’s what I thought.  I knew I should get off the bed but something was keeping me from moving. Before I knew what was happening, I was leaning down to kiss her.  We started kissing passionately and soon I had pulled her hair down. Rosamund had beautiful eyes, face, and body but none of it turned me on like her hair. I actually wished she wore her hair down more.

We continued to kiss and she started taking my shirt off. She rubbed her hands over my chest and then down my back. We continued to kiss and soon I was taking off her shirt. It was like I had no control when it came to her. I got her shirt off and started touching one of her breasts. She moaned and grabbed by butt. It was when her hand moved to my zipper that I got shocked back to reality. I stopped kissing her and looked at her. “Rosamund, we have to stop.”

She looked at me first shocked then she sighed. “I don’t understand Jefferson. You tell one thing but then you act like you want to do something.”

“I know. I’m sorry. I never said I didn’t want to do anything with you but I seem to lose control when I’m around you. I don’t mind making out but anything else, I’m afraid we might slip into something else.”

“I suppose you’re right. Maybe I should head home. It’s almost dinner time and Mom will be upset if I miss dinner.” She got up off the bed and put her shirt back on. She into the bathroom and fixed her hair while I put my shirt back on.

She came out of the bathroom with a sad look on her face. “Hey, come here.” She walked over to me and I pulled her towards me and hugged her. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah, I’m just trying to understand what’s going on.”

“What’s going on is that I’m crazy about you and once we go past a certain point, I’m afraid I’ll lose control.”

“Maybe you should tell me what that point is so I can help us to not go past it.” She suggested.

“Let’s just stick to kissing and touching. Anything past that is just asking for trouble.”

“I can live with that.” She looked up at me and smiled.

We started kissing again and soon we were back to being all over each other. She actually pulled away first this time. “Jefferson, I really should get home.”

“You’re right. We should get going.”

We walked out of my room and I heard someone coming down the spiral stairs. “Hey Jeff. Can I talk to you for a sec.” I heard Charlie say.

I turned around and looked at him. He had a serious look on his face. I turned back around to Rosamund.  “I’ll meet you downstairs. Maybe you could sneak us another cookie from Mom.” She smiled and went downstairs.

“What’s up.” I asked him.

“Dude, you were all alone in your room with Rosamund, that’s what’s up.”

“What about it? Are you telling me you and Kate were never alone in our room?”

“You know that happened.”

“Then what’s your problem?”

“My problem is that you’ve got your whole life ahead of you and if you’re not careful,  you might do something that will change your life forever. Good or bad.”

“You don’t think I don’t know that?”

“I’m just telling you, be careful.”

“Thanks bro, but I think I’ve got it covered.”

I walked down the stairs and found Rosamund in the kitchen talking to Mom. I told Mom bye and drove Rosamund home thinking about how I wished my brother would mind his own business.
